SPRINGER LAW FIRMBANKRUPTCY · ROCKFORD, IL

Springer Law Firm is based in Rockford, IL, but "based in Rockford" doesn't mean you have to live near Rockford to work with us. The entire northern half of Illinois — from the Wisconsin border down through Chicago's suburbs — falls under one federal court: the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Illinois. That means Attorney Dan Springer is already your court. You file there no matter which county you live in.

Why Distance Doesn't Matter

The firm handles every step of your case without anyone driving anywhere. Here's how it works:

  • Free consultation by phone. You call, we talk. No commute, no waiting room.
  • Documents by email. You send us your pay stubs, tax returns, and bank statements by email. We do the rest.
  • Signature pages by mail or drop-off. The only paper you sign is a small set of physical signature pages. We mail them to you; you mail them back. If you happen to be near Rockford, you can drop them off.
  • Identity verification on Zoom. A quick video call — five minutes, no travel.
  • Your court hearing on Zoom. This short hearing — the only court appearance in most bankruptcy cases — is held by Zoom video throughout the Northern District of Illinois. You sit at home; we appear with you.

Chicago-area clients: you get Rockford-level flat fees. Chapter 7 starts at $1,000 for an individual — the same rate as a Rockford-area client. No big-city premium. See full fee information.

Boone County

Belvidere and the surrounding area are just a short drive from Rockford, but you still never need to come in. We handle everything remotely.

Cook County

Chicago and all Cook County suburbs. Your case files in the Eastern Division in Chicago — and your court hearing is on Zoom, so you file from wherever you are.

DuPage County

Naperville, Wheaton, Downers Grove, and the rest of DuPage County. Same remote process, same flat fee, same court.

Kane County

Aurora, Elgin, St. Charles, and the rest of Kane County. The Northern District covers you, and so do we — fully remote from day one.

Lake County

Waukegan, Libertyville, Round Lake, and surrounding communities. We work with Lake County clients entirely by phone, email, and Zoom.

McHenry County

Crystal Lake, Woodstock, McHenry, and the rest of the county. You're in the Northern District — you can file from home without setting foot in a courthouse.

You Don't Have to Live in Rockford to Work with a Rockford Law Firm

A lot of people in the Chicago metro assume they need a downtown Chicago attorney — and pay downtown Chicago prices. They don't. Because bankruptcy is a federal practice, any attorney admitted to the Northern District of Illinois can represent you anywhere in that district. Attorney Dan Springer has handled cases across all of Northern Illinois for more than a decade.

Metro clients often tell us they wished they'd known sooner. The process is genuinely simple: a phone call, some emailed documents, a couple of signature pages, and a Zoom hearing. Most clients say it took less effort than they expected — and the result may be a complete financial fresh start.

Common Questions

Questions About Remote Service

I live in Chicago. Why would I hire a Rockford attorney?
Because bankruptcy is a federal practice, any attorney admitted to the Northern District of Illinois can represent you, whether you're in Rockford or Chicago. The process is 100% remote, so it makes no practical difference — and our flat fees are significantly lower than what many large metro firms charge.
Do I ever have to appear in person at the courthouse?
For most Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases, the only required "appearance" is the court hearing, which is held by Zoom video in the Northern District of Illinois. Most clients never set foot in a courthouse.
How do I sign the legal documents if there's no in-person meeting?
Bankruptcy filings require physical (wet-ink) signatures on a small set of forms. We mail or email you the signature pages; you sign and mail them back. It's a simple process that clients handle easily from home.
Which courthouse handles my case?
Winnebago and Boone County cases are assigned to the Western Division (Rockford). Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and McHenry County cases are assigned to the Eastern Division (Chicago). Either way, your court hearing is by Zoom and we handle both divisions routinely.
Are your fees different for Chicago-area clients?
No. Our flat fee for Chapter 7 is $1,000 for an individual and $1,500 for a joint filing, regardless of which county you live in. There is no big-city surcharge. Learn more about fees.
